The HUPO World Congress 2009

The study of human proteomics by the Human Proteome Organization (HUPO) has been found very helpful in lots of areas of human interest. Through the years, annual gatherings are help to discuss the latest developments and other valuable information about human proteome and its practical applications in various fields meant for human benefits. These gatherings make people and industry leaders aware of the advantages that they can gain from evolutionary proteomic studies. An example of such event was the Annual HUPO World Congress in 1999.

The HUPO World Congress of 2009 was the 8th annual international convention held by HUPO. Organized by Drs. Peter Liu, Michael Siu, David Fenyo, Chris Borchers and Peipei Ping; the event was held from September 26- 30 in Toronto, Canada with the theme Proteomics on Human Health: Environment and Diseases. It was attended by several organizations, industry leaders, health associations, medical experts, scientists and businessmen from various parts of the world. The city of Toronto was chosen as the venue of the event because of its commendably clean environment and its wonderful setting.

Among the discusses topics on the convention include the Human Disease Glycomics/Proteomics Initiative’s (HGPI)past pilot studies, the progress of present HGPI studies, study of Proteomics and its relations to human diseases, and many others. The 4- day convention created a lot of awareness for the attendees as new information about Human Proteomics were given. After 2009, there are lots of other conventions held in other places for the same aspiration. The success of past and present HUPO Congress events made a great impact to various fields and made proteomic one of the presently most interesting topics for many people.
